Family Law Practice.  Lauren R. Barros focuses her practice on family law, specializing in divorce, custody, parent-time disputes and partnership breakups.

Awards.  Ms. Barros received the award of Distinguished Family Law Practitioner for 2005-2006 from the Utah State Bar. She and her husband received Equality Utah’s Allies Award in 2006 for their legislative work to promote fairness and equality in Utah. In 2004, Utah Business Magazine gave her the “Top 40 Under 40 Rising Stars" award and in 2004 and 2005, she was selected as one of Utah Business Magazine's "Legal Elite" family law practitioners.

Appointed Positions.  Ms. Barros is on the National Family Law Advisory Council, on the Legal Panel of Equality Utah, and on the Board of Utah Bar’s Family Law Executive Committee.  She was a President of the Board of the Women Lawyers of Utah from 2001-2002 and Bar Commission Representative in 2003. She is a member of the Utah Minority Bar Association and Women Lawyers of Utah.

Volunteer Work.  Ms. Barros provides legal advice at the Third District Family Law Clinic once a month.  She was a Small Claims Court judge in the Third District Court from 1998-2005 and a rescue member with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team from 1998-2003 and was on the Board of the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Forecasters from 2005-2007.

Educational Background.  Born in Dover, Delaware, Ms. Barros attended the George School, Colorado College and the University of Utah College of Law, where she graduated in 1993 as a William H. Leary Scholar.  She received the Clark Dewsnup Scholarship in Natural Resources Law.

Legal Experience.  Prior to opening her own office, Ms. Barros worked for Cohne, Rappaport and Segal, the Disability Law Center, the Anti-Discrimination and Labor Division of the Utah Labor Commission, and Utah Legal Services. Ms. Barros was an Adjunct Instructor for the University of Utah Graduate Social Work and Women's Studies Departments on the topics of "Comparative and International Women's Rights Law" and "Women and the Law." She has lectured, on topics within family, employment, discrimination and disability law, in Utah and nationally.
