Awards
Ms. Barros is rated "AV Preeminent" which is the highest certification by the Martindale-Hubble Peer Review attorney rating service. In 2013, the readers of the Catalyst magazine named Lauren one of Utah’s “Catalyst 100,” as a catalyst within our community. Also in 2013, the Community Foundation of Utah selected her as one of its “Enlightened 50,” individuals who are “making a real difference in the lives of Utahns through innovation, collaboration and commitment to the common good.” ​
Ms. Barros received the award of "Distinguished Family Law Practitioner" in 2005-2006 from the Utah State Bar and a "Most Fabulous Attorney" award from Q Salt Lake Magazine every year since 2007. She and her husband received Equality Utah's Allies Award in 2006.
In 2004, Utah Business Magazine gave her the "Top 40 Under 40 Rising Stars" award. She is consistently listed in Utah Business Magazine's Family Law "Legal Elite" and in the American Trial Lawyers' Association "Top 100 Trial Lawyers in Utah."​

Ms. Barros is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the American Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys, the Utah State Bar Family Law Executive Committee (Chair 2011-2012), the National Center for Lesbian Rights Family Law Advisory Council, the American Inns of Court, and the Women Lawyers of Utah (President of the Board, 2001-2002).

Volunteer Work
Lauren co-leads the Wasatch Back Chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby, where she empowers her community to build the political will for bipartisan solutions to climate change.
In 2009, Lauren helped create the first free LGBTQ Law Clinic in Utah, Rainbow Law, and continues to provide pro bono help to transyouth. Lauren was appointed by Governor Herbert to the Third District Judicial Nominating Commission, where she helped select judges from 2018 - 2023. She provided free advice at the Third District Family Law Clinic for many years. Lauren was a Small Claims Court Judge in the Third District Court from 1998-2005, a rescue member with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team from 1998-2003, and on the Board of the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Forecasters from 2005-2007.

Educational Background
Born in Dover, Delaware, Ms. Barros attended Colorado College and the University of Utah College of Law, where she graduated in 1993 as a William H. Leary Scholar, with a Clark Dewsnup Scholarship in Natural Resources Law.

Legal Experience
Prior to opening LRBFamilyLaw in 2002, Ms. Barros was an attorney with Cohne, Rappaport and Segal, the Disability Law Center, the Risk Management Division of the State of Utah, the Utah Labor Commission, Silvester & Conroy, and Utah Legal Services. Ms. Barros previously taught classes at the University of Utah on Women and the Law and Comparative International Human Rights Law. Ms. Barros regularly presents on topics within family law, surrogacy law, and LGBTQ issues.

Personal
Lauren enthusiastically enjoys cycling, skiing, and hiking around Utah's mountains with her friends and family.
